Captain Hansja Sharma
Captain Hansja Sharma has created history by becoming the Indian Army’s first woman pilot qualified to fly the advanced Rudra Armed Helicopter. At just 27 years old, her achievement marks a proud and inspiring moment for the Indian Armed Forces and for women empowerment in defence services.
Born on 9 March 1998 in Jammu, Captain Hansja Sharma completed her schooling from St. Xavier’s Convent School, Barnai. She pursued her graduation from Parade College, Jammu, and later joined the Zoology Department at the University of Jammu before her selection into the Indian Army. Her journey to success was not easy.

She initially faced a Temporary Rejection (TR) during the selection process. However, her determination changed everything. Within just 15 days, she underwent a three-hour-long nose surgery, cleared the medical requirements, and proudly joined the Indian Army in olive green.
First Woman To Win Silver Cheetah Trophy
Captain Sharma’s training journey became historic at the Combat Army Aviation Training School (CAATS), Nashik. She topped her course and became the first woman officer to receive the prestigious Silver Cheetah Trophy. This is awarded to the best combat aviator. This milestone made her a trailblazer in Indian Army Aviation history.
She lead the 251 Army Aviation Squadron during the Army Day Parade 2026 showcasing the HELINA missile system. Her performance highlighted the growing strength of women officers in frontline combat roles.
Adding another feather to her cap, Captain Sharma was also awarded First in Order of Merit in the 107th Air Traffic Management & Air Laws (Basic) Course, conducted at the Air Traffic Control Officers Training Establishment (ATCOTE), Air Force Academy. This achievement reflects her all-round professional excellence in aviation and military training.

Hailing from Jammu, Captain Hansja Sharma is the daughter of senior journalist Mrs. Rashmi Sharma. Her success reflects the values of discipline, hard work, and perseverance instilled by her family.
