Short Service Commission Indian Army
Defence aspirants also have the option of joining the Army and serving as a Short Service Commissioned Officer for 10/14 years. At the end of 10 years, one has 3 options. Either elect for a Permanent Commission or opt out or have the option of 4 years extension. Finally Officers can resign at any time during this period of 4 years extension. Therefore, officer commissioned for short service can apply for permanent commission provided there is no faults in his service.
Once selected for Short Service Commission, you go to the Officers Training Academy at Chennai. The selection process is a written exam followed by the SSB interview and medicals. For some of the entries it is direct SSB interview and medicals.

Short Service Commission (Non-Technical) Men & Women (CDS examination) : Officers recruitment through this entry is advertised in the months of May and Dec. Mode of application is online only through official website of UPSC. Furthermore, selection for short service commission is through a written exam (Paper 1 & 2 ONLY) conducted by the UPSC twice every year.
Short Service Commission (Technical) Men & Women : Officers recruitment through this entry is also advertised in the months of January and July. Additionally, mode of application is online only through official website of Recruitment Directorate, www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. Moreover, there is no written examination for this entry.
Short Service Commission (NCC) Men & Women : Officers recruitment through this entry is advertised in the months of August and January. Candidate who has done NCC and obtained ‘C’ certificate with minimum ‘B’ grade, can apply online. Also, there is no written examination for this entry.
Short Service Commission (JAG) Men & Women You have to be a Law Graduate with minimum 55% aggregate marks in LLB Degree. Furthermore, the candidates should be eligible for registration with Bar Council of India/State. Also, Candidates will be required to provide CLAT (PG) score. Officers Recruitment through this entry is advertised in the months of August and February. Lastly, there is no written examination for this entry.
