Lt Colonel Nasreen Fatima completed her schooling at Army Public School, Nehru Road, Lucknow. During her school years, she actively participated in various activities and showed strong leadership qualities. Her interest in discipline, sports, and national service gradually developed into a desire to join the Armed Forces.
After completing school, she pursued higher education and earned a Master’s degree in English Literature. She also completed Post Graduation in Business Management, strengthening her academic background. Along with academics, she was also an NCC cadet and an active sportsperson, which helped shape her personality and leadership skills.
These experiences played an important role in preparing her for a career in the defence forces.

Career in the Indian Air Force
Nasreen Fatima began her military journey by joining the Indian Air Force as a Short Service Commissioned Officer in the Education Branch. During her tenure, she served for around ten years at different Air Force establishments and training institutions.
One of her most notable postings was at the National Defence Academy (NDA), Pune, where she contributed to the academic training of future officers. The NDA is one of the most prestigious military academies in India, and being associated with it gave her the opportunity to interact with and mentor young cadets who were preparing to become officers in the Armed Forces.
Her role in the Education Branch involved teaching, mentoring, and helping cadets develop the knowledge and confidence required for military leadership. Her dedication towards training and education made a strong impact on many young aspirants.

Historic Entry into the Territorial Army
After completing her service in the Indian Air Force, many would have considered stepping away from the uniform. However, Nasreen Fatima’s passion for serving the nation remained strong.
She later joined the Territorial Army (TA), becoming the first woman officer from the Indian Air Force to achieve this milestone. The Territorial Army is a unique volunteer force that supports the regular army and acts as the second line of defence during national emergencies, internal security situations, and natural disasters.
