FACTS YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT INDIAN ARMY
If your SSB is round the corner here are some must know and good to know facts about Indian Army that’ll most importantly help you in having an edge in the interview :
- President of India is supreme commander of three services – Army, Navy, Air force
- The army headquarters is in New Delhi under the direction of chief of Army Staff who is a General .
- Indian army is 2nd largest army in terms of manpower after China and besides that 4th strongest army after USA, USSR and China.
- On 15th January every year we celebrate Army day because of Lt Gen (Later field Marshal) K.M.Cariappa’s taking over as first commander-in-chief of Indian army from General Sir Francis Butcher on 15th jan 1949.
- Motto of Indian Army – ‘Service Before Self’
COMMANDS
If you are appearing for SSB interview then most importantly go through all the commands
Army is divided into following seven commands each headed by a Lt. General
- Northern command – Udhampur, Jammu and kashmir
- Western command – Chandimandir, Haryana
- Central command – Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh
- Eastern command – Kolkata, West Bengal
- Southern command – Pune, Maharashtra
- South Western command – Jaipur, Rajasthan
- Training command – Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

Respected Sir,
Western Command is in Chandimandir, but Chandimandir is a cantonment area is in Panchkula which is northernmost district of Haryana. Its my humble request that you please look into this and correct it as you have mentioned that Chandimandir is in Punjab.
The command when established was in East Punjab (Today’s Haryana). It has been updated to avoid any confusion.
