Captain Samira Buttar
As India prepares for the Republic Day Parade, Captain Samira Buttar of the Indian Army will lead her contingent on Kartavya Path with great pride and responsibility. She is not only marching as an officer but also carrying the pain of losing her father recently. Still, she chose to put duty first and continue her role in the parade.
Captain Buttar is the contingent commander of the Integrated Operations Centre tableau at the 77th Republic Day Parade. She comes from a proud army family and is a fourth-generation officer. Her father, Colonel Sarabjeet Singh Buttar (Retd), passed away recently, yet she decided to honour his memory by leading the contingent.

Samira Buttar had an excellent academic and professional record from the very beginning. She secured 7th rank in the merit list of the JAG-23 course. Later, she joined the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, in October 2019.
She said that commanding the contingent during the parade is her way of paying tribute to her father. She has always dreamed of joining the Armed Forces and feels proud to lead a tableau that highlights the success of Operation Sindoor. Her family could not attend the parade due to the recent loss, but she believes her father would have been proud of her achievement.
The tableau she leads shows India’s integrated defence strength and the success of Operation Sindoor, symbolising the unity of political leadership, armed forces, and citizens. It also reflects India’s preparedness and growing self-reliance in defence capabilities.
Despite her personal grief, Captain Buttar trained hard and stayed focused. Her dedication sends a strong message about the spirit of the Indian Army to serve the nation above everything else, even in difficult times.
