Daily routine of a NDA cadet | Life at National Defence Academy

Daily Routine Of NDA Cadet

In this article, we take a closer look at the daily routine of a NDA cadet. Life at the National Defence Academy (NDA) is tough, disciplined, and highly organised. NDA trains young boys and girls to become officers in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Every day at NDA follows a fixed routine that helps cadets become physically fit, mentally strong, and disciplined leaders.

Early Morning Start

An NDA cadet’s day starts very early. Cadets wake up around 4:30 AM with the sound of a bugle. There is no delay or excuse. After getting ready, cadets move straight to morning physical training (PT).

Morning PT includes running, stretching, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups and other exercises. This training improves strength, stamina, and mental toughness.

Drill and Parade

After PT, cadets take part in drill practice from 6:00 AM to 7:30 AM. They learn marching, coordination, and following commands. Drill helps cadets develop discipline, teamwork, and confidence. It also teaches them how to move and act as a unit.

Breakfast and Classes

After drill, cadets have breakfast and attend academic classes from around 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM. From morning till early afternoon, cadets attend classes in subjects like Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, and Military Studies.

These classes help cadets improve their thinking skills, decision-making ability, and general knowledge.

Lunch and Short Rest

At around 1:30 PM, cadets have lunch. This is followed by a short rest. Cadets relax for some time before afternoon training begins.

Afternoon Training and Sports

The afternoon, typically 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, is dedicated to physical training, sports, and military drills. Cadets engage in team sports such as football, hockey, basketball, or swimming. They also practice obstacle courses, weapon training, and other military activities. These activities build physical fitness, team spirit, and leadership qualities.

Evening Study Time

As the day progresses into evening, cadets take time for personal hygiene and then engage in self-study or group study sessions. This period (roughly 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM) is important for academic revision, exam preparation, and discussion of concepts with peers and seniors. Seniors often guide juniors during this time.

Dinner and Downtime

Dinner follows around 8:30 PM, where cadets share a meal and take a short break from the day’s rigorous activities. Some cadets use this time to read, catch up on current affairs, or relax briefly before the final stretch of the day.

Rest and Renewal

By 10:00 PM, lights are switched off and cadets go to sleep. Proper sleep is important so their bodies and minds can recover for the next hard day of training. This strict daily routine, which includes physical training, studies, and military practice, helps cadets develop overall strength, discipline, and good character.
