Indian Military Academy Passing Out Parade

The prestigious 155th Passing Out Parade (POP) of the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, took place on 14th December 2024 (Saturday), marking yet another significant milestone in IMA’s illustrious history. The grand parade was reviewed by Suprabal Janasewashree General Ashok Raj Sigdel, Chief of the Army Staff, Nepal Army, who congratulated the Officer Cadets for successfully completing their rigorous training.

A Proud Display of Excellence

The Reviewing Officer, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, applauded the Officer Cadets for their immaculate turnout, precision, and synchronized movements during the parade, a true reflection of their discipline and hard work. He also extended compliments to the instructors and staff for their dedication in shaping the next generation of military leaders.

The Officer Cadets showcased their inspiring zeal and enthusiasm as they marched to the stirring military tunes of “Sare Jahan Se Achha” and “Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja,” with pride and perfection. The parade left spectators, including parents and loved ones watching live both in person and across global media platforms, filled with immense pride and emotion.

Strengthening India-Nepal Military Ties

General Ashok Raj Sigdel’s visit comes on the heels of General Upendra Dwivedi’s recent visit to Nepal in November 2024. During that visit, General Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff, Indian Army, was conferred the Honorary Rank of General of Nepal Army by the Hon’ble President of Nepal, Shri Ram Chandra Poudel. This tradition highlights the deep-rooted and historic ties between the Indian and Nepali Armies.

The presence of General Sigdel at the Passing Out Parade serves as a testament to these strong military bonds. The Reviewing Officer expressed his gratitude to General Upendra Dwivedi and the Government of India for the honor of reviewing the parade. He acknowledged that over 200 Nepali Cadets have trained at IMA, many of whom have reached prestigious ranks, including four Chiefs of the Nepal Army.

Officer Cadets: A Step Towards Elite Service

The 155th POP saw a total of 491 Officer Cadets pass out, including those from the 155 Regular Course44 Technical Entry Scheme138 Technical Graduate Course, and Special Commissioned Officers (SCO-53). Among them were 35 cadets from 13 Friendly Foreign Countries, including two cadets from the Royal Nepal Army. The Reviewing Officer encouraged the young leaders to dedicate themselves to the service of their nations. He remarked, “You are just a step away from the historic and magnificent moment of your commissioning into the most elite forces.”

Honoring the IMA Legacy

Following the parade, General Ashok Raj Sigdel laid a wreath at the IMA War Memorial, paying homage to the brave alumni of this prestigious academy. The emotional Pipping Ceremony was a highlight of the day, where parents and loved ones proudly adorned the Officer Cadets with the ranks of Commissioned Officers, marking the beginning of their illustrious careers.

The Reviewing Officer presented the following awards:

• The coveted award of the Sword of Honour was presented to ACA Jatin Kumar.

• Gold Medal for the Officer Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit was presented to AUO Pratham Singh.

• Silver Medal for the Officer Cadet standing Second in the Order of Merit was presented to ACA Jatin Kumar.

• Bronze Medal for the Officer Cadet standing Third in the Order of Merit was presented to BUO Mayank Dhyani.

• Silver Medal for the Officer Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit from Technical Graduate Course was presented to Officer Cadet Chirag Yadav.

• Silver Medal for the Officer Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit from Technical Entry Scheme (TES-44) was presented to Officer Cadet Mahipal Singh.

• Bangladesh Medal for the Officer Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit from Foreign Country was presented to Officer Cadet Prabin Pandey (Nepal).

• Chief of Army Staff Banner was awarded to Jessore Company for standing Overall First amongst 12 companies for the Autumn Term 2024.

The 155th Passing Out Parade of the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, was a proud moment for the Officer Cadets and their families, as well as a reaffirmation of the IMA’s role in fostering global military ties and leadership.
