The Government on Saturday, 23rd March 2019 named Karambir Singh as the next Chief of naval staff.
Singh is going to succeed Admiral Sunil Lanba who retires on May 30.
Surprisingly, Vice Admiral Karmbir Singh will be the first helicopter pilot to occupy the office of the Navy.
This has never been before that an officer from Naval Air Wing is going to hold as the head of the office.

- Karambir Singh got commissioned into the Indian Navy in July 1980.
- He earned his wings as a helicopter pilot in 1982.
- Singh has an extensive experience in flying the HAL Chetak and Kamov Ka-25 helicopters.
- Vice Admiral Singh is at present Flag Officer Commanding in Chief of the Eastern Naval Command Visakhapatnam.
- Vice Admiral Singh belongs to Jalandhar Punjab.
- He had graduated from Barnes School in Maharashtra before joining NDA.
- In his career over 37 years, the Admiral has commanded four ships, Indian Coast Guard ship Chandbibi.
- Also commanded missile corvette INS Vijaydurg, guided missile destroyer INS Rana And INS Delhi.
- Singh had also served as the Fleet Operations Officer of the Western fleet.
So in a nutshell we can say that the Navy of the country is going to be in very responsible hands.
