The Indigenously Built INS Vikrant Is Ready For Sea Trials

The Indigenously built Aircraft Carrier INS Vikrant is now ready for sea trials in December. INS Vikrant will be fourth Aircraft Carrier of Indian Navy. In Sanskrit, the Name Vikrant means “Courage“. The Mighty warship is constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited. Due to the ongoing Covid crisis, the commissioning of ship might be delayed.

The Aircraft carrier is designed by Directorate of Naval Design. The design is based on Ski jump runway rather the catapult system. The keel of Vikrant was laid on February 2019 by then Defence Minister A. K. Anthony. The Construction of ship is completed and Harbour trials are also over. The ship is ready to roll out for sea trials in December.

As the design is based ski jump runway, the MiG 29 K squadrons will be operated on the Vikrant. The indigenously built Aircraft Carrier is capable of operating 2 Fighter squadrons and 2 Helicopter Squadrons. The Indian Navy is considering to deploy the INS Vikrant in Kathupalli near Chennai under Eastern Command. After the Completion of Rambilli Naval base, the Ship deployment will be done in Rambilli (INS Varsha).

Need of Second Aircraft Carrier

The India has a coastline of 7500 Kms with peninsular Demography. The INS Vikrant guards the Arabian sea, Bay of Bengal and IOR. By Commissioning the INS Vikrant, India will be having two Carrier strike groups, operating in Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal. In the time of Crisis, Strike group of INS Vikramaditya will cover Arabian sea and INS Vikrant will cover Bay of Bengal. The Construction of INS Vikrant at Cochin Shipyard has created more opportunities for Private Sector Companies. The Collaboration of Private sector and Public Sector has created more job opportunities.
