vehicle mounted laser dazzler by DRDO
A bullet-proof crowd control vehicle created by the Laser Science and Technology Center (LASTEC), a lab under DRDO that can immobilize crowd of thousands by blinding their eyes for few moments without causing permanent harm.
Although it was developed three years ago and has been demonstrated by the DRDO to security forces including the Army’s Northern Command, it has not been deployed anywhere.
The vehicle is on show at the 106th Indian Science Congress.
The system employs an intense green laser and illuminates a large swathe with a diameter of 24 mt at the target to cover a large section of crowds, with a set of mirrors oscillating at fast repetition rate. The intense bright radiation causes credible glare in subject eyes leading to immediate but temporary functional capability degradation.
Known as the vehicle-mounted laser dazzler (VMLD) and created by the DRDO in a joint effort with Mahindra, this mob control instrument is a "non-deadly" weapon framework with sole purpose to control mobs
