Gen NS Raja Subramani
General NS Raja Subramani, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM assumed charge as the 3rd Chief of Defence Staff and Secretary, Department of Military Affairs on 31st May 2026.
After laying a wreath at the NWM to pay homage to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation, he was presented a tri-services Guard of Honour at the South Block of the national capital.
A highly decorated officer with over four decades of service, General Raja Subramani was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles in December 1985. His distinguished career includes a number of key Command and Staff appointments including General Officer Commanding 2 Corps, GOC-in-C Central Command and the Vice Chief of Army Staff.

Prior to assuming the appointment of CDS, he served as Military Adviser at the National Security Council Secretariat. The General officer acknowledged the exemplary leadership and contribution of his illustrious predecessors and pledged to build upon their achievements.
He expressed his gratitude to the Nation for the trust reposed in the Armed Forces and said that the Armed Forces would work in unison with all stakeholders as part of Whole of Nation Approach to further strengthen National Security.

CDS stated that he would work towards enhancing Jointness, Integration and Synergy in the Armed Forces and focus on accelerated development, induction and integration of indigenous weapons to achieve Atmanirbharta.
He called for innovation in thought and action and greater collaboration between all stake holders to drive capability development and modernisation. He complimented the members of the Armed Forces on their professionalism and operational readiness and reiterated his commitment to their training and welfare and the welfare of Veterans and Veer Naris.
