Dreams can emerge from the most unlikely places. For Lt Ritika Dubey, that dream began in a small village in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, where limited resources did not limit her aspirations.
Growing up, Ritika imbibed the values of perseverance, resilience and hard work. Her journey from a rural background to the Officers Training Academy is a testament to what determination and clarity of purpose can achieve.
Excellence Despite Limited Resources
Ritika’s academic journey was marked by consistent hard work. Despite having limited access to guidance and resources, she distinguished herself academically and earned multiple merit scholarships that supported her schooling and higher education.
She pursued her higher education in Liberal Arts, a field that helped her develop a broader understanding of society, culture and leadership. Her academic experience shaped a well-rounded perspective and strengthened her ability to understand people and situations from different viewpoints.
But academics were only one part of her journey.
From Athletics to Leadership
Ritika actively pursued sports and fitness, representing her school and region at cluster-level and national athletics competitions.
Competing at these levels helped her develop qualities like discipline, endurance, teamwork and the ability to remain composed under pressure, that would later prove invaluable in military training .
Beyond academics and sports, she also dedicated her time to social initiatives and educational programmes. Her association with organisations including Global Citizen Year Academy, Teach For India, Harvard Education Programme, Mohan Singh Mehta Memorial Trust and Vidhya Bhawan School, Udaipur gave her opportunities to engage with diverse communities and contribute to meaningful causes.
These experiences helped shape her understanding of leadership as something rooted not only in achievement but also in responsibility towards others.
Choosing the Indian Army
Ritika is the first member of her family to pursue a career in the Armed Forces.
Her decision to join the Indian Army was driven by a desire to challenge herself and enter an environment that demands courage, commitment and excellence.
With a clear sense of purpose and unwavering determination, she successfully cleared the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview in her very first attempt.
In September 2025, she joined the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, marking the beginning of a transformative new chapter.
The rigorous training tested her physical resilience, mental agility and leadership abilities. Yet, the qualities she had developed through academics, athletics and years of perseverance helped her embrace the challenges and continue growing.
More Than a Profession
For Ritika Dubey, wearing the Olive Green uniform represents far more than a career choice. It is a responsibility, an honour and an opportunity to serve the nation.
Her journey is particularly inspiring for young women from rural India who may have ambitious dreams but limited access to resources or guidance. Ritika’s story demonstrates that one’s starting point does not have to determine one’s destination.
