Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE) All You Need To Know
Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment ASTE is the Premier organization of Indian Air Force. The ASTE is located at Bangalore in Karnataka. The Ace Test pilots and Flight Test Engineers are found in ASTE. The Establishment has Ace pilots and Engineers from Both Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.
Every Aircraft which is upgraded to new standards must undergo serious evaluation at the ASTE. The Agencies like HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited), ADE (Aeronautical Development Establishment) and DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) work closely with the ASTE.
The History of ASTE traces from 1948, established as Aircraft Testing Unit. In the following years, the Establishment saw enormous Upgradation in the Infrastructure and training. The first Commandant of ASTE was Squadron Leader Bhopinder Singh.
The Highly Skilled Pilots and Flight Engineers are selected to be a part of ASTE. The selection process is very difficult and only handful of members make into the Establishment. The selected Pilots and Flight Engineers go under the specialized training in ASTE. They are trained to test the Aircrafts and other Airborne systems before inducting into the IAF.
The Test Pilots and Flight Engineers at ASTE check and evaluate the Upgraded Aircraft and Systems before they join their respective Squadrons. The Upgradation Evaluation includes :
1. Electronic Warfare systems
2. Jamming and Anti Jamming Systems
3. Enhanced Radar Ranges
4. Helmet Mounted Systems
5. Engine Upgradation
6. The Hydraulics and Aerodynamics of Aircraft
7. The Weapons and target system.
Every Upgraded Aircraft and Systems must the Quality Seal from Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment before Joining their Squadrons. The ASTE has Also played a key role in developing and testing of indigenous LCA Tejas. The ASTE was presented the presented the President Standards in 2005 by Late President Dr. Abdul Kalam. The present Commandant of ASTE is Air Vice Marshal Sandeep Singh.
The Legendary Squadron Leader Rakesh Sharma and Wing Commander Ravish Kumar are the Alumnus of the ASTE. The present Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria is also an Alumnus of this premier Establishment.
