DRDO successfully conducted the flight test of Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW) from Hawk-I fighter jet of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The test was conducted off coast Odisha coast on 21 January 2021.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation DRDO research center IMARAT located in Hyderabad designed and developed the DRDO Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon SAAW. The test conducted on 21 January was the 9th successful test of Smart Anti Air Field Weapon SAAW by DRDO. In the Interim Test Range (ITR), Balasore captured the Mission events and the Flight was successful.

Smart Anti Air Field Weapon SAAW is a 125 Kg Smart Weapon capable of engaging ground enemies airfield assets like Radars, Bunkers, Hangars, Taxi Tracks, and Runways up to a range of 100 Kms. This high-precision Guided bomb is lightweight as compared to a weapon system of the same class.
On 19 August 2018, IAF Jaguar Deep Penetration strike Aircraft conducted the Successful testing of SAAW Weapon in Pokhran, Rajasthan. A total of three tests were conducted from IAF Jaguar Deep Penetration strike Aircraft and SAAW were fitted with a live warhead and destroyed the target with high precision. In September 2020, SAAW was approved for procurement for the Indian Navy and Air Force.
