IAF Chief Presents His ‘Wings’ To Top Cadet At Air Force Academy

In what will be an emotional moment to cherish for life, Flying Officer G Navin Kumar Reddy of the Indian Air Force (IAF) got a surprise gift at his commissioning ceremony on Saturday.

IAF chief Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa presented his own ‘wings’ to the newly-commissioned fighter pilot, Navin Reddy. ‘Wings’ is an IAF badge that is shaped as such. Only pilots – those who fly fighter jets, transport planes and helicopters — adorn whenever they wear a uniform. The IAF chief, himself an acclaimed fighter pilot, presented his ‘wings’ to Flying Officer Reddy, as he topped the course of 152 officers, who passed out from the Air Force Academy at Dundigal, Hyderabad, today.

Toppers in the course are called ‘Sword of Honour. Reddy was also the also presented a ceremonial ‘sword’. Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa was the reviewing officer for the parade. The young recipient of the honour is the only son of Subedar G Pulla Reddy, who is serving in the Indian Army. The proud family posed for pictures with the IAF chief.

In all, 152 cadets were awarded the President’s Commission as they passed through the portals of the Academy parade ground. The IAF chief congratulated the officers from friendly foreign countries and appreciated the parents for having supported and encouraged their wards to pursue their dreams of a career in the IAF.
