Division status to Ladakh : what is its significance
As you know that the state of Jammu and Kashmir has a separate constitution and it is the most controversial state of India. And due to the Indo Pakistan issues, this topic is always in LimeLight from the SSB point of view. Now you might have heard the news of separation of Ladakh as a separate division in the state. Governor Satya Pal Malik granted separate division status to Ladakh which was the part of Kashmir division till now. This means that Ladakh will now have a separate divisional commissioner and an inspector general of police (IG).
Although people are looking at this decision of the government as a political move. But it is going to make the condition of people and the state much better. The people in the region demanded for this because they felt 'ignored' by the government. This is due to the geographically isolation of the region. It remains landlocked for nearly six months in a year. And also the residents believe that the region’s unique culture is not seen which is different from that of the Kashmiris.
Ladakh consists of two districts : Leh and Kargil. This has also raised the demands of people for making both Leh and Kargil the headquarters alternatively for six months. And above all, this decision is also important for the national security. This is because Ladakh shares its borders with both China and Pakistan. And overlooking such region is not good for India in a time when it is already in boundary disputes from both the sides.
After that, other Muslim regions like Pir Panjal and the Chenab valley are also demanding a separate division. In the conclusion, we can say that this decision is going to accelerate the pace of development and all-round growth in the region. And consequently, the development and growth of India.
