SSB Interview Documents: What Happens to Document Out Candidates in Screening?

SSB interview documents are an important part of the journey. A lot of times, many candidates get rejected for lacking the required set of documentation. This creates doubt and confusion in their minds. Today we elaborate on the aftermath of failing SSB interview documentation on the screening day because this is the first step to experiencing the real SSB.

Need for Documentation in SSB

Document check is the first thing that candidates face on entering the SSB centre. Hence, these cannot be ignored for the following reasons:

  • Identity verification and avoiding any fraud or mismatch
  • Eligibility check for the said entry and course
  • Record keeping
  • Joining formalities of all selected candidates
  • Reimbursing travel allowance, if applicable

Carrying the right documents becomes important for the above reasons. Candidates must go through their call up letter thoroughly and compile all documents mentioned. Some essential documents are:

  • Mark sheets and passing certificates of matriculation, 10+2 and graduation
  • Valid ID proof like AADHAR card, passport, et cetera
  • Admit Card, if applicable
  • Call up letter from the respective service
  • Filled PIQ form (for Army entries)
  • Annexures attached in call up letter
  • Affidavit for name change or mismatch in name
  • Certificates for extracurricular activities

SSB Document Out: What It Means

We must know what document out in SSB means, before we build on its aftermath. One must carry a wide range of documents to attend the SSB interview.

If candidates fail to carry any of these, they are not allowed to sit for the screening process, and are sent back home. Such candidates are called “document out” candidates. The month-long efforts come to a standstill.

What Happens If You’re Document Out in SSB?

If a candidate does not possess the required SSB interview documents, they cannot sit for the screening process. The details of the candidate are noted, and after certain formalities they are allotted a fresh date for the SSB interview at the same centre.

Candidates must report with all SSB interview documents on the next date. But this may not be true for all SSB centres. Some of them allow candidates to sit for the screening process and produce the missing documents later or transfer such candidates to phase two for another entry. Here is an example scenario:

If you cleared the screening process at an AFSB but did not have a specific document, you may be transferred to an AFSB, SSB or NSB, provided you are eligible for the same (direct entry or otherwise). You will be treated as a “direct phase two candidate” and exempted from screening there.

SSB Interview Documents: Mistakes To Avoid

Candidates must scrutinise their documents before reporting to the SSB centre. Check for the following issues and get them corrected in time:

  • Name mismatch of yourself or your parents in educational certificates
  • Date of birth mismatch
  • Missing original certificates
  • Incomplete mark sheets
  • Missing conversion formula for semester exams
  • Lost admit card (especially for AFCAT entry)

If any mismatch in SSB interview documents occurs at your end, you can solve it by getting an affidavit. Mention the wrong and right entries in it and use the format prescribed by the selection centre. For a lost AFCAT admit card, you can get a copy of an FIR from your nearest police station and attend the SSB.

Clearing the SSB interview is a dream of many candidates, but the first step requires carefulness. Compiling the required documents before reporting can save candidates from unnecessary hassle later, and help them perform efficiently during screening.
