Sword Of Honour
The Sword of Honour is the highest recognition awarded to a cadet in the Indian Armed Forces training academies. It is a symbol of excellence, leadership, and dedication and is given to the best-performing cadet of a passing-out batch. The recipient is chosen based on their overall merit, discipline, physical fitness, and officer-like qualities (OLQs) throughout the training period.
Training Academies that Award the Sword of Honour
It is awarded at the following prestigious training institutions of the Indian Armed Forces:
1. Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun
The IMA trains future officers for the Indian Army, and the cadet who performs best in all aspects of training receives the award during the passing-out parade.
2. Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai & Gaya
The OTA trains Short Service Commission (SSC) officers. The best-performing cadet in a batch receives the award for outstanding performance in academics, physical fitness, and leadership.

3. National Defence Academy (NDA), Pune
While NDA does not award the Sword of Honour, the best all-round cadet is recognized with the Best All-Round Cadet Trophy, which is considered an equivalent honour.
4. Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala
The top-performing naval cadet receives the President’s Gold Medal.
5. Air Force Academy (AFA), Hyderabad
At AFA, the Chief of the Air Staff Sword of Honour is awarded to the top cadet, symbolizing excellence in all aspects of training.
