It is a symbol of excellence, leadership, and dedication and is given to the best-performing cadet of a passing-out batch. The recipient is chosen based on their overall merit, discipline, physical fitness, and officer-like qualities (OLQs) throughout the training period.

Training Academies that Award the Sword of Honour

It is awarded at the following prestigious training institutions of the Indian Armed Forces:

1. Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun

The IMA trains future officers for the Indian Army, and the cadet who performs best in all aspects of training receives the award during the passing-out parade.

2. Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai & Gaya

The OTA trains Short Service Commission (SSC) officers. The best-performing cadet in a batch receives the award for outstanding performance in academics, physical fitness, and leadership.
